The need of Science education at graduation for rural areas was fulfilled by starting science at degree levels first of all in our college in July 1963 under the able guidance of the first principal Dr. N. Y. Dole. The department of mathematics came into existence in 1963. Mr. Bodhankar looked after the department in the beginning. When B.Sc. II year classes were started in 1967 Dr. Kasralikar , Mr. S. S. Patil and Mr. G. H. Sakhare joined the department. With the increase in the strength of student Mr. Page, Mr. Patne and Dr.. K.V. K. Murthy were added to the department. Then our college had allowed Arts students to opt for Mathematics. Due to efforts of all the members, we could start separate classes from P. U. C. to B. A. In comparison with other colleges, our strength was far ahead. Mathematics in the Arts faculty was one of the peculiarities of our college. The student who passed B. A. with Economics and Mathematics and who later got jobs in banks and L.I.C. offices can testify it. M.Sc. part I was started in 1980s. At the beginning only part I was there. Later both part I and part II were there. Mr. Borolkar and Miss Biradar stood second in the University Merit List. During the vacations Dr.. Kasralikar and Dr.K.V.K.Murthy carried out their research work and got their Ph.D. One of the members of the faculty Late Patne was a gold medalist in the University Examination. Another member of the faculty Mr. G.H. Sakhare rose to become the Principal of the college. Mr. Page is a member of B.O.S. Mathematics. As a member of the Syllabus Revision Committee, he introduced Practical of Mathematics. The Practical include problem solving and seminars so that they can have better understanding of the concepts of Mathematics. The Department held the classes for competitive exams like Banking, Railway Board Exams etc. Dr. K.V.K.Murthy was member of B.O.S., Syllabus Revision Committee, Co-coordinator steering committee NAAC also rose to become the principal of the college. In July 2008 Dr. B.D.Karande joined the Department with full fledge increase in strength of students.
