The Department of Economics is established in June 1962 and Started Economics as one of the optional subjects at UG (BA) level. PG (MA) Course in Economics started in 1992. The department has been producing good citizens, academicians, entrepreneurs and social workers. The department is contributing in the area of research and nation building through lectures, organization of seminars, conferences and research surveys.

• Qualified Teachers.
• The department provides more practical options at UG and PG level like mathematical Economics, Quantitative Techniques (Statistics), Econometrics. The department’s two year M.A. course, is the mainstay of the teaching programme. It places emphasis on quantitative methods, state-of-the-art economics, and hands-on training in the use of econometric software.
• Use of Advanced Teaching Tools and Techniques (CD’s, Software, LCD etc.)
• The Department guides and encourage to the students for various examinations like NET, SET, MPSC, UPSC, Banking etc.
• The department is also actively engaged in carrier counseling activity.

The department makes available reference books and journals to the UG and PG students from the departmental library. The soft copies of the important reports, surveys and annual publications by the ministry of finance, planning commission, RBI and various agencies are also make available to the students. Important articles related to the economy of India are also preserved for the further study for the students. Alumni of the department occupy important positions in Indian universities, research institutes, government bodies, international agencies, the media and the corporate sector.
